Moving in DLF Phase 1 to 5 in Gurgaon is a short drive but a long job, because the effort sits in the keys, the sequence and the handling at both doors and not on the road. Plan it as two address problems joined by a few minutes of driving, and it goes smoothly.
This post is about the case where you leave one DLF phase for another. If you want the local detail for one neighbourhood, our pages on DLF Phase 1 and DLF Phase 3 cover access, lanes and landmarks. Here we cover what changes when the old house and the new house are only a few kilometres apart.
Why does a short move inside DLF City still need a plan?
A short distance removes the long drive and leaves everything else. The crew still packs, wraps, loads, unloads and places each item, and both addresses still have stairs, gates and parking to deal with. What the short distance adds is a temptation to wing it: to ask a friend with a pickup, to skip labelling, or to shift in dribs and drabs over a week.
That usually costs more time than it saves. Loose items travel in the wrong vehicles, cartons arrive without names, and the new house fills up in no order. A single planned day with a labelled load is often calmer than a week of small trips. Our household shifting service plans local moves the same way as long ones, with the packing and the unloading done by the crew.
How do the DLF phases connect, and does the metro matter?
It matters mostly to you and your family, not to the truck. According to Wikipedia's article on Rapid Metro Gurgaon, the line has stations named Sikanderpur, DLF Phase 2, Belvedere Towers, Cyber City, Moulsari Avenue and DLF Phase 3, and a DLF Phase 1 station that opened on 31 March 2017. The same article says Sikanderpur is the interchange with the Delhi Metro Yellow Line. The Sikanderpur station article confirms that link.
On moving day the metro is a useful way for the family to reach the new house while the truck makes its run. It does not carry the load. The vehicle uses the road, so tell the crew which gate or lane you will use at each end, and use the station only as a landmark. If your office is in Cyber City, which Wikipedia describes as a large IT and commercial hub linked to the Rapid Metro, you can also plan the move for a day when you can be away from work comfortably.
How should you sequence keys, cleaning and loading?
The order matters more than the distance. We use this simple order for a hop between phases:
- Confirm the handover date of the new house in writing, and the exit date of the old one.
- Ask the landlord or the owner whether the new house can be accessed a day early for measuring, cleaning or minor repairs.
- Pack non-daily items first, over several days, and label by room.
- Move on a day when both houses are free of other workmen, so the crew has clear access.
- Keep the last night in the old house if you can, and sleep in the new one only after the beds are up.
Tip
Walk the new house with a tape measure before the move. A wardrobe that fits the old bedroom may not fit the new stair turn, and it is far easier to decide that at a quiet hour than with the crew waiting.
Which things are easy to forget on a short move?
Because the house is near, people postpone small things until after the move. A short list helps:
| Task | Why it matters on a short hop |
|---|---|
| Address updates | Bank, gas and delivery apps keep sending to the old house |
| Gas cylinder and filters | Often forgotten at the old address |
| Curtain rods and fittings | Easy to leave behind when the main load is gone |
| Spare keys and access cards | The old house needs them returned on time |
| Neighbours at both ends | A word beforehand prevents blocked lanes and parking disputes |
| Plants and pets | Better moved by you in a car than in the truck |
What if some items cannot go on the same day?
Split by purpose. Daily-use items, a mattress and a few kitchen things go on the first load. Heavy storage items such as an old cupboard or a rarely used trunk can follow on a later day, if both houses are available. If there is a gap between handovers, our warehousing and storage service can hold furniture and cartons for a while. Tell us the gap when you ask for a quote, so the plan covers it.
When you contact us, send the phase, the block or plot, the floor and the date for both houses. We then prepare a written quote for the household move.
